愛のしるし The ID Badge of the Church
私は、子供の時に水夫、インディアン、宇宙飛行士、警察官などの衣装を着るのが好きでした。特に警察官のバッジを付けるのを誇らしく思いました。それは、権威と力とを象徴するからです。警察官は自分の身分を証明するためにバッジを付けます。
When I was a child I loved dressing up as a sailor, an Indian, an astronaut or a sheriff. I was particularly proud when I put on my sheriff's badge. This was because it gave me power and authority. A policeman wears the badge to prove who he is. アメリカではCIAやFBIは身分証明のカードをセキュアリティの関門を通過する時に見せます。これらのIDカード、身分証明書は 二つの目的のために作られました。それは、第一にその人が誰であるかと言う身分証明のためと、第二にその人に力と権限を与えるためです。
In the US, members of the CIA or FBI show their badges in order to pass through security. These badges have two purposes: first of all they prove who a person is and also they afford the person the authority and power of the organization they represent. ヨハネの13:31－35には、イエス様は教会のしるしとなるIDバッジについて述べられています。
The Bible passage today, John 13:31-35 talks about the ID badge of the church. このバッジは私たちクリスチャンが誰であるかを語っています。このバッジは私たちに力と権限を与えます。このバッジとは何でしょうか。それは、イエス・キリストが弟子たちに取った態度と教えにしるされています。その態度と教えは人を愛し人に仕えることです。
This badge proves who we are. It also gives the backing of power and authority afforded us by belonging to God's church. What then is this badge? It is revealed in the attitude and teaching of Jesus as He loved and served others. ヨハネの13章には、イエスが弟子たちの足を洗った記事が記されています。イエス様が謙遜になり、弟子たちを愛して、弟子の足を洗ったように、私たちも謙遜になって、人に仕え、人を愛すべきであることをイエス様は模範を通して教えられました。
In John 13 we see Jesus washing the feet of His disciples. Jesus set us an example when He humbled himself, loved His disciples and washed their feet so we too should humble ourselves, love our neighbor and serve them. それで、主であり師であるこのわたしが、あなたがたの足を洗ったのですから、あなたがたもまた互いに足を洗い合うべきです。 わたしがあなたがたにしたとおりに、あなたがたもするように、わたしはあなたがたに模範を示したのです。ヨハネ13:14,15

Of course the feet of the disciples were cleansed by being washed by Jesus but even more than having clean feet, Jesus' desire for them was that their hearts would be cleansed. Jesus taught about the importance of a clean heart and gave the disciples a command that must be fulfilled. This command is the ID badge of the church. 教会の身分証明となるものは何でしょうか。それは、お互いに愛し合うことです。
What then is our identity badge as members of the church? It is to love one another. あなた方に新しい戒めを与えましょう。あなたがたは互いに愛し合いなさい。わたしがあなたがたを愛したように、そのように、あなたがたも互いに愛し合いなさい。ヨハネ13:34
“A new commandment I give unto you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34. 一般世の中では、自己の利益を抜いて、純粋に人を愛すことは難しいです。人を愛すことができるためには、まず、神様、イエス様を先に愛さなければなりません。
In this world it is difficult to put aside our own desires and love others with a pure love. In order for us to love others as we should, we must first love Jesus. 神様を愛して神様の偉大な愛を知る時に、神が私たちを愛してくださったように、隣人を思いやり、愛すことができるようになるのです。イエス様は私たちの罪のために十字架にかかり身代わりになって死んでくださいました。私たちを罪から救うために代わりになって死んでくださったのです。
When we love God and sense the magnitude of His love for us He helps us to have compassion for others and to love them as He wants us to. Jesus died the horrific death on the Cross in order for the debt for our sins to be paid. 他者に対して純粋な愛を持つことが教会の使命であり、教会をユニークな存在にさせます。隣人愛を持つこと、互いに愛し合うこと、愛が教会の力のあるIDバッジです。もし、教会がこの愛のしるしを持っていなかったら悲しいことになります。
To love others with a pure love is the command given to the church and that is what makes the church unique. Love for our neighbours and love for our brothers and sisters within the church, this is the powerful identity badge showing our membership in the church. It is a very sad state if the church does not demonstrate this love.

イエス様が弟子たちの足を洗い弟子たちに愛を示したように、十字架で人類のために命を捧げ、愛を示したように、イエス様の愛に倣うものとなるべきです。イエス様は、殺されることが分かっていながら、自ら進んで、エルサレムに行き十字架にかかりました。人がその友のために命を捨てること、これよりも大きな愛はありません。
Just as Jesus demonstrated His love by washing His disciples' feet and by sacrificing His life on the Cross for the human race, we must imitate Him and demonstrate His love to others. Even though He knew that He was going to be killed, Jesus went to Jerusalem and offered His life for ours. There is no greater love than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. 愛は教会のしるしであると同時に、クリスチャンしるしです。愛をバッジとして掲げることができる人は幸いです。
Love is the badge of the church, the sign of belonging to Jesus. Those who can demonstrate this kind of love are blessed.
