Lesson from Knitting 編み物からの教訓

I really enjoy knitting. I used to do quite a bit of knitting but found that people often prefer a bought garment rather than a hand-made one. Also, these days hand-made garments are often more expensive than bought ones. Recently, with the birth of grandchildren I am able to take up my hobby again as they are still too young to prefer bought over hand-made.

Currently, I am making a cardigan for our grand-daughter which involves quite a complicated pattern. The picture on the down-loaded pattern is rather unclear so it was difficult to see how the pattern would turn out. I followed the pattern diligently, counting stitches and rows, using the cable needle and knitting stitches together at the appropriate places but it took some time before I could see what the finished pattern actually looks like. Now that some pieces are completed I can see that it actually looks good.

How often our lives are like knitting. We cannot see how they will turn out or what kind of pattern is being built into them. We can only trust that God does know what He is doing!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11.

私は編み物するのが本当に楽しいです。

私は、昔、よく編み物をしました。

でも、手作りの編み物よりも既製品を好む人が多いことが分かりました。

また、手作りの編み物は既製品のものよりも値段が高いです。

最近、孫が生まれることによって趣味の編み物を再び始めました。

小さい子供たちは手造り既製品の方が良いなどとは言いません。

現在、二番目に生れた孫娘のために複雑な模様があるカーデガンを作っています。

インターネットから取得した編み物のデザイン模様は明瞭でないので、それで、出来たらどうなるか多少不安でした。

模様の細かい所を勤勉に縫い目の列などを数えて、模範の模様に従って編んで行きました。

そして、実際に完成した模様を見る事ができるまでにかなりの時間がかかりました。

最後の部分を編み上げた時に、全体の模様がはっきりと見えました。

私たちの人生も、この編み物と似たところがあります。

将来、自分の人生がどのように進展するか、先が見えません。

神様が、将来を良きに導いてくださると信じて生きるのみです。
