挑戦者ダビデ David the Challenger

ある神学生が、教会に派遣されました。その教会の牧師が用事で日曜日留守にするので、説教をある牧師に頼もうと思っていたら、神学生が、『私がチャレンジします。私に説教させてください。」と執拗に願ったので、彼に説教させました。その牧師が帰って来てから神学生の説教について会衆に聞くと、「あれは駄目な説教でした。最低ですよ。何を言っているのかさっぱり分かりませんでした。」それで牧師がその神学生に聞くと、彼は「よく準備できなかったので、先生の古い説教を使って話しました。」と答えました。　

人生では、様々な新しい企てに挑戦することがあります。

事業家は新しいビジネスにチャレンジし、スポーツ選手は新しい記録に挑戦し、科科学者は新しい発見、発明に挑戦します。

挑戦が無い人生は単調で、発展がありません。

「後悔しない人生とは、挑戦し続けた人生である」

人生は一度しかありません。脳の90%以上は使われないまま死んでいくそうです。

使われない筋肉は退化し、委縮します。失敗して元々です。

思い切って、新しいことにチャレンジしてみましょう。

新しいことに挑戦することは、様々な益をもたらします。

今まで知らなかった新しい世界を体験できます。

新しい挑戦を通し色々な経験を得ることができます。

挑戦しつづけている限り、人生に退屈するということはありません。

その体験によって、新しい知識、新しい技術を学び、幅広い視野を持つ人に成長することができます。

さらに、挑戦することで、目標が与えられ、日々の生活が充実します。

チャレンジした結果、成功すれば、勝利、栄冠を手にすることができます。

羊飼いの少年ダビデは巨人ゴリアテに挑戦しました。

ゴリアテは巨人でイスラエルの兵隊はこの巨人を非常に恐れて、誰も彼に戦いを挑む者がいませんでした。

彼はイスラエル軍を嘲笑し、ダビデが信じる神を侮辱しました。

サウロ王はこの歴戦の勇士ゴリアテには、羊飼いの少年では勝てないとダビデに言いました。

常識で判断すれば、3メートル近い身長の巨人で、最強の兵士に、戦場で戦った経験ない少年が勝てるはずがありません。

しかし、ダビデはゴリアテに近寄り、戦いを挑みます。

ダビデには、「獅子や、熊の爪から私を救い出してくださった主は、あのペリシテ人の手からも私を救い出してくださいます。」I サムエル 17:37

という信仰がありました。ダビデはゴリアテに向かって、信仰によって、勝利の言をしました。

「この戦いは主の戦いだ。主はおまえたちをわれわれの手に渡される。」I サムエル 17:47

ダビデは石投げを使ってゴリアテをまたたたく間に倒しました。

ダビデは袋の中に手を差し入れ、石を一つ取り、石投げでそれを放ち、ペリシテ人の額を打った。

石は額に食い込み、彼はうつぶせに倒れた。

こうしてダビデは、石投げと一つの石で、このペリシテ人に勝った。I サムエル 17:49,50

ここでダビデがたとえ飛び道具を用いたところで、その使い方に熟練していなければ、石投げ器から飛ばされた石は的を外れ、ダビデは殺されていたことでしょう。

ダビデが、ゴリアテに勝ち自分の命を救ったのは熟練した卓越した石投げ器の使い手だったからです。

日々の訓練、日々の練習が、やがて、大事な時に力を発揮したのです。

何事にも、忍耐して、勤勉に務めを全うすることです。

役に立つ時が必ず来ます。毎日千本のバットの素振りした王貞治選手はいいました。

「努力は必ず報われる。もし報われない努力があるのならば、それはまだ努力と呼べない。」

一度しかない人生。いつ死ぬかわからない人生。失敗して元々。

使われない秘められた能力を最大限に活用しましょう。

恐れずに、困難でも、勇気をもって、新しい事にチャレンジしてみましょう。

A Bible School student was seconded to a church. The pastor of the church had to be away one Sunday and was thinking of asking another pastor to speak in his place. However, the Bible School student said, “I would like to take on the challenge. Let me preach instead please.” He was persistent so was given the chance to preach. When he returned, the pastor asked some of the congregation how the sermon went. “It was hopeless. The worst ever! I couldn`t understand what he was saying.” When he asked the student about it he was told, “I didn`t have time to prepare so I used one of your old sermons.”

In life, we have to face many new challenges. A businessman faces the challenge of starting a new business, a sportsperson of setting a new record, a scientist of making a new discovery and developing a new product. A life without challenges is monotonous and without room for development. A life without regrets is one with continuous challenges. We only have one life. It is said that we end our lives without using 90% of our brain. Muscles that are not used wither and atrophy. If we fail we are merely back to the start. Let`s be daring and take on a new challenge.

We gain many things from taking on a new challenge. We experience something new. We can gain new experiences. Life is not boring as long as we continue to face new challenges. From these experiences we gain new knowledge, new skills and develop a wider perspective on life. A challenge provides a goal and makes life more fulfilled. As a result of facing a challenge we grow and gain victory. There is no maturing without challenge.

The young shepherd boy, David met a huge challenge when he faced Goliath. Goliath was a giant feared by the Israelite soldiers and no-one would take on the challenge of facing him. He jeered at the soldiers and derided the Israelites` God. King Saul told David that there was no way he could defeat the experienced warrior, Goliath. Realistically speaking one would not expect an inexperienced, young boy like David to defeat the three-metre tall veteran, Goliath. However, David took on the challenge and approached Goliath. However, David had faith in his God. “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” I Samuel 17:37. David faced Goliath and in faith declared the victory that would come. “The battle is the Lord`s, and He will give all of you into our hands.” I Samuel 17:47.

David used his slingshot and in an instant Goliath had fallen. “Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, David slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead and he fell face-down on the ground. So David triumphed with a sling and a stone.” I Samuel 17 49, 50. If David had not been used to using the slingshot, when he let the stone go it would have missed its mark and David would have been killed. David was able to beat Goliath and save his own life because he was skilled and experienced with the slingshot. The day-by-day training and practice brought about victory at the important moment. In whatever we do if we are patient and diligent the job will be completed. A famous baseball player in Japan who swung his bat 1000 times every day said, “Effort will always be rewarded. If effort is not rewarded then it is not enough.”

Life is only once. We have no idea when our time will be up. If we fail we are just back at the start. Let`s use our hidden, as yet unused talents to the full. Even if it is hard, be brave, do not be afraid to take up new challenges.
